Supporting pharmacy research, evidence and evaluation

Science and research are key elements of the pharmacy profession. Robust evidence ensures safe, high-quality treatments and interventions are available to patients and the public.
Research, audit, improvement and evaluation give us the knowledge and evidence to continually improve outcomes.

We help pharmacy professionals, through programmes of professional development and support, to better understand the role of science, research and evaluation in their practice, and to develop skills, to assist generation of knowledge and evidence.

Why are research and evaluation important in professional development?

Quality services and effective patient care are underpinned by evidence. 

Taking part in research activities, such as a local quality improvement project or even a large international clinical trial, enables you, as a professional, to help prove the value of pharmacy to patient care and to play a part in improving the services offered to patients. 

Research, evidence and evaluation are also vital components of the our professional development programmes, like Faculty and Foundation. These programmes demonstrate your skill and level of practice in the pharmacy profession to patients, the public and other healthcare professionals.

Research and evaluation work draws on the skills pharmacy professionals already possess and expands existing expertise in leadership, collaborative working, management and education and training.

We believe all pharmacy professionals should be supported to engage, support and lead research and to aid professionals in building research and evaluation skills, we have created a Research, Evidence and Evaluation Toolkit (REET).
